Relatively new to the Common Pleas Court, but an experienced hand at Toledo politics, Judge Gene Zmuda is an articulate and authoritative voice on a number of subjects. Aside from the practice of law, public policy and the art of stage blocking (Zmuda had lead roles in his high school productions of Oklahoma and My Fair Lady), one of Judge Zmuda’s favorite subjects is baseball. As a matter of fact, the Judge’s speech is peppered with references, allusions and metaphors based around America’s favorite pastime. The sport is something of a passion and compass point for the man.

Give the littlest grads the gift of college

“Pomp and Circumstance” swells as the sounds of rustling gowns and shuffling feet fill the air. The whole audience waits in eager anticipation with outstretched arms with cameras at the ready. Suddenly you see them, with tassels swaying on their paper plate “mortar boards,” crossing the stage to receive their mini diplomas. At the end of the ceremony, they are moving up to… kindergarten! Overwhelmed with pride, you think, “Wow, they are growing up so fast.” And then you realize, “Wow, they are growing up SO fast!”

Rockets earn 3.235 grade point average in spring semester

University of Toledo student-athletes earned a combined grade point average of 3.235 in the 2018 spring semester, Vice-President and Athletic Director Mike O'Brien recently announced. It is the seventh consecutive semester in which UT student-athletes have earned a semester GPA above 3.2, and the 19th straight semester of at least a 3.1 GPA.

Four Rocket teams earn honors for perfect academic progress rate scores

Four University of Toledo sports were honored by the NCAA for ranking in the top 10 percent of their sport in Academic Progress Rate (APR). The four sports were Women's Basketball, Women's Golf, Men's Tennis and Women's Tennis. All four sports received perfect scores of 1,000 for the four-year period from 2013-14 to 2016-17.
