Four charged in crime spree that stole vehicles, U.S. Mail and robbed postal service carriers

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle M. Baeppler announced that a federal grand jury returned a nine-count indictment charging Jaylen Harris, 19, of Beachwood, Ohio, Lavelle Jones, 18, of Warrenville Heights, Ohio, Devin Rice, 20, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Hakim Benjamin, 20, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, with organizing and engaging in a conspiracy to steal, sell and purchase high-end vehicles, rob Postal Service carriers and steal from the U.S. mail.

Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Husted announce new online BMV services

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted have announced that Ohioans will soon be able to renew their driver’s license online, adding to the extensive list of services through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) that can now be completed at the newly upgraded BMV.Ohio.Gov, rather than in-person. The projects announced today underscore the administration’s commitment to transforming the BMV customer experience, significantly lowering the number of reasons Ohioans have to visit a BMV site.

New projects expected to create more than $213 million in investments

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted recently announced the approval of assistance for two projects set to create 375 new jobs. During its monthly meeting, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) reviewed economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners. Collectively, the projects are expected to result in more than $22.9 million in new payroll and spur more than $213 million in investments across Ohio.

Free employment services for military spouses announced

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) Director Matt Damschroder announced recently that the agency is undertaking an extensive outreach effort to offer free individualized employment services to spouses of active and former military members.

Northwest Ohio communities receive $8.4 million in financing from Ohio EPA for wastewater, drinking water infrastructure improvements

Communities in Northwest Ohio are receiving approximately $8.4 million in low-interest rate and principal forgiveness funding from Ohio EPA to improve wastewater and drinking water infrastructure and make other water quality improvements. Funding infrastructure projects and improving water quality across the state continues to be a priority of Governor Mike DeWine’s administration. These loans (financed though the state’s revolving fund) were approved between Jan. 1 and March 31, 2022. The lower interest rates and principal forgiveness will save these communities more than $2.2 million.

Fundraiser to support freedom for trafficking victims July 2

Ohio’s largest wildlife area grows by 6,898 acres

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife announced recently the purchase of an additional 6,898 acres at Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area in southeast Ohio. The acquisition brings the total acreage of Ohio’s largest wildlife area to 54,525 acres of public land for hunting, fishing, trapping, birding, and outdoor recreation.

Ohio Department of Health identifies probable monkeypox case

Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, MBA, announced this month that ODH has identified a probable case of monkeypox infection in an adult male Ohio resident based on preliminary testing at the ODH laboratory. Confirmatory monkeypox testing at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is pending.
