The American Bar Association Center for Human Rights, in conjunction with the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s TrialWatch initiative, issued a TrialWatch Fairness Report that determined the criminal prosecution of lawyer Theary Seng in Cambodia violates her fair trial rights and her right to freedom of expression.

Ohio’s deer hunters have successful muzzleloader season

Ohio hunters completed the 2022 muzzleloader season with 12,141 deer checked from Saturday, Jan. 8 to Tuesday, Jan. 11, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Over the past three years, an average of 11,501 deer were taken with a muzzleloader during the same four-day period.

DOJ and Agriculture department issue shared principles and commitments to protect against unfair and anticompetitive practices

Speaking at a White House event focused on competition in agriculture, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently expressed their shared commitment to effectively enforcing federal competition laws that protect farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural producers and growers from unfair and anticompetitive practices, including the antitrust laws and the Packers and Stockyards Act. The Department of Justice and Department of Agriculture (USDA) are already working together to support their respective enforcement efforts under these laws. ODJFS announces improvements to Step Up To Quality child care program

Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Director Matt Damschroder recently announced improvements to Ohio’s Step Up To Quality program (SUTQ). SUTQ is Ohio’s quality rating and improvement system for child care. In vetoing a temporary suspension of SUTQ in Amended Sub. House Bill 169 last month, Governor Mike DeWine directed ODJFS to reduce bureaucracy associated with the program.

Ohio State Bar Foundation awards more than $400,000 to Ohio nonprofits this fall

The Ohio State Bar Foundation (OSBF) Board of Trustees approved $402,925 in grants at its November meeting to be awarded to 10 Ohio nonprofit organizations. This brings the total of grants awarded this year by the OSBF to $1,107,527. Each funded project supports the OSBF’s mission to promote the pursuit of justice and public understanding of the rule of law.

Supreme Court of Ohio: Reflecting on 2021

As the pandemic persisted into 2021, the judicial branch kept adjusting to deliver its crucial services while considering health and safety precautions.
