Jail-time credit not awarded for time under house arrest

A criminal defendant is not entitled to jail-time credit while under postconviction house arrest or postconviction electronic monitoring because state law only grants credit to those confined to a public or private facility “intended for penal confinement,” the Ohio Supreme Court ruled recently.

Seven charged in multi-state scheme to purchase vehicles and watercrafts using false and stolen identification documents

U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman announced recently that seven individuals were charged for using stolen identities of United States citizens from Puerto Rico and falsified identification documents to fraudulently purchase and finance vehicles and watercrafts from dealerships in Northern Ohio. The charges were made public in a forty-count indictment unsealed in a federal court in the Northern District of Ohio.
