Ohio weekly flu hospitalizations jump to highest of season

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reports that the number of new influenza-related hospitalizations is the highest yet of the 2019-2020 flu season. The most recent data shows that from January 26 to February 1, a total of 832 people were newly hospitalized. This marks an increase of more than 36% over the previous week of flu reporting. Supreme Court of Ohio considers if an online posting ban violates the First Amendment

The Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday, February 11th, heard four oral arguments, including one in which the Court will consider whether the addition of an online posting ban to a civil stalking protection order (CSPO) is an unconstitutional prior restraint on free speech or a legal safeguard against further harassment by someone already deemed by a court to be stalking his victims.

Debt settlement company fined $1,000 for the unauthorized practice of law

The Ohio Supreme Court recently clarified there is no blanket rule that deems a nonlawyer who negotiates the settlement of a debt on behalf of another as engaging in the unauthorized practice of law. Those who are “rendering legal services” as part of the negotiation, however, are in violation.

Man sentenced for intending to distribute fentanyl pills disguised as Oxycodone

Benjamin Ross, 28, of Youngstown, Ohio, was sentenced for his role in a scheme to distribute fentanyl pills, which were pressed, colored and stamped to look like 30 milligram oxycodone hydrochloride pills. Judge John R. Adams sentenced Ross to 144 months of incarceration, to be followed by ten years of supervised release.
