This summer, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) is reminding consumers of important outage preparation information. While the electric distribution system in Ohio is typically safe and reliable, weather conditions such as thunderstorms, high winds or tornados can cause service interruptions. The PUCO offers these tips for being prepared in the event electric customers experience an outage.

United States files civil forfeiture complaint for proceeds of alleged fraud and theft from PrivatBank in Ukraine

The United States filed a civil forfeiture complaint today in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida alleging that more than $6 million in proceeds from the sale of commercial real estate in Dallas, Texas, which property was maintained and improved using the proceeds of embezzlement and fraud from PrivatBank in Ukraine, are subject to forfeiture based on violations of federal money laundering statutes.

Division of Forestry provides more than $40k to support prescribed fire in Ohio

Improper Medicaid payments to prisoners and deceased top $118 million

The Ohio Department of Medicaid failed to recoup more than $118.5 million in erroneous duplicate payments or improperly paid for the managed care of prison inmates and deceased residents over a three-year period, according to a formal review of spending released recently by Auditor of State Keith Faber.

Former investment advisor pleads guilty to stealing more than $9.3 million in Ponzi scheme

U.S. Attorney Bridget M. Brennan announced that Tara M. Brunst, 47, of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, pleaded guilty in federal court recently to participating in an investment fraud scheme that stole approximately $9.3 million from clients. Brunst pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, mail fraud and three counts of wire fraud.

New Ohio legislative district maps unconstitutional

Ohio’s proposed fall 2022 wild turkey hunting season reduced by three weeks

Biologists with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife recommended a major reduction to the 2022 fall wild turkey hunting season during the Ohio Wildlife Council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12. Under the proposal received Wednesday, Ohio’s fall wild turkey season would begin on Saturday, Oct. 15 and conclude on Sunday, Nov. 13, a reduction of three weeks when compared to the 2021 fall season.
