IBAHRI calls on Bermuda, the UK and Commonwealth countries to protect LGBTI rights

The International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) today published three detailed letters sent on 21 June 2018 to the Premier of Bermuda, the then Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Secretary-General (SG) of the Commonwealth of Nations condemning the efforts of the legislature of Bermuda to reverse the Supreme Court of Bermuda’s 2017 decision regarding same-sex marriage. The letters also express concern at the general lack of support for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people, collectively referred to as the LGBTI community, in the country.

Rockets fall in shootout with Hurricanes, 49-24

Medicare open enrollment begins October 15

As the 2019 Medicare open enrollment period approaches, Jillian Froment, Director of the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) is encouraging those on Medicare to review their drug and health insurance coverage options and select a plan that fits their needs and budget. The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP), a division of ODI, will host Medicare Check-Up Day events throughout the state to help consumers compare and select the best plan that meets their unique needs. Medicare Open Enrollment for 2019 runs from October 15 through December 7.

Justice Department takes first-of-its-kind legal action to reduce opioid overprescribing

The Justice Department filed a complaint to bar two Ohio doctors from prescribing medications after an investigation revealed they recklessly and unnecessarily distributed painkillers and other drugs. Temporary restraining orders—a first-of-its-kind against doctors allegedly prescribing opioids illegally under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA)—were served this week that forbid Michael P. Tricaso, D.O., of Akron, and Gregory J. Gerber, M.D., of Sandusky, from writing prescriptions.

Raynee DeGrio has been hired as an assistant coach for the University of Toledo cross country and track & field programs, UT head coach Linh Nguyen recently announced. DeGrio comes to Toledo after three seasons as an assistant cross country and track coach at Ball State.

The men's cross country team traveled to Bowling Green for the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener on Friday, September 7, and landed two runners in the top five.
