Ohio men among those charged as part of crackdown on Darknet vendors

Recently, the Department of Justice, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the U.S. Secret Service (USSS), the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), announced the results of a year-long, coordinated national operation that used the first nationwide undercover action to target vendors of illicit goods on the Darknet. Special Agents of the HSI New York Field Division, in coordination with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, posed as a money launderer on Darknet market sites, exchanging U.S. currency for virtual currency. Through this operation, HSI New York was able to identify numerous vendors of illicit goods, leading to the opening of more than 90 active cases around the country. The Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section (MLARS) of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, working with more than 40 U.S. Attorney’s Offices throughout the country, coordinated the nationwide investigation of over 65 targets, that lead to the arrest and impending prosecution of more than 35 Darknet vendors.

Movie night coming to the Glass Bowl on August 17

The University of Toledo will be hosting a free movie night for the community in the Glass Bowl on Friday, Aug. 17. The movie selection will be determined by fan voting at the Facebook poll below. Fans may vote through noon on July 16. The winning movie will be announced on July 16.

Victims of attorney theft awarded money from Lawyers' Fund

The Board of Commissioners of the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection has awarded $141,440 to 22 victims of attorney theft at its most recent meeting. Eight former or suspended Ohio attorneys were found to have misappropriated client funds. Cases involving three deceased attorneys were also among the claims presented to the Board of Commissioners.
