Toledo finished in seventh place in the 2016-17 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday evening. Junior Jess Avery and freshman Izzy Jones each swam to a second-team All-MAC selection for their efforts throughout the season.

Township can contest use of spent lime to fill quarry in local court

An Ottawa County judge can consider some claims brought by a township against owners attempting to fill their rock quarry, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled recently. However, some of the township’s contentions must be addressed by a state environmental agency.

UT’s Cody Thompson named semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy

Toledo senior wide receiver Cody Thompson (Huron, Ohio) was named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation today. The award has recognized the best football scholar-athlete in the nation every year since 1990.

Seven indicted following drug trafficking investigation

(McConnelsville, OH) Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Morgan County Prosecutor Mark Howdyshell, Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks, and members of the Washington Morgan Noble Major Crimes Task Force announced recently the indictments of seven individuals suspected of operating and/or participating in a large-scale drug trafficking organization with ties to Morgan, Washington, Muskingum, and Franklin counties.

State must prove charter school building operators intended to profit from lease deals

The Ohio Supreme Court recently overturned denials of property tax exemptions sought by the building manager of two Horizon Science Academy charter schools in Columbus. The Court found that state taxing authorities used the wrong standard to conclude the corporation attempted to profit from leasing educational space.

Toledo places fifth at Fighting Irish Classic

Senior Stephen Watts fired a season-low two-under par 68 on Monday to help Toledo to a fifth-place showing at Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Classic on Sunday, October 8. The Rockets finished with a team score of seven-over par 847 after carding a team score two-over par 282 today at the par-70, 6,925-yard Warren Golf Course.

Nine arrested in undercover operation

(Youngstown) Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene announced recently that an undercover operation aimed at reducing demand for sex trafficking has led to the arrests of nine men, including one suspect who is accused of arranging a sexual encounter with a person he allegedly believed was a juvenile.

Rockets pull out thrilling Homecoming victory, 20-15

Senior quarterback Logan Woodside threw for 289 yards and sophomore safety Kahlil Robinson intercepted two passes to lead Toledo to a hard-fought 20-15 victory over Eastern Michigan in UT's Homecoming game at the Glass Bowl on Saturday.
