ODA launches 2017 “Ag is Cool!” creative expression contest

The Ohio Department of Agriculture today announced it will begin accepting entries for the 2017 “Agriculture is Cool!” Creative Expression Contest. Children enrolled in school or home schooled in Ohio during the 2016-2017 academic year have until June 5, 2017 to capture their personal interpretation of why Ohio agriculture is cool for their chance to win prizes, including tickets to the Ohio State Fair.

Ten UT Rockets named to Academic All-MAC Squad

Toledo swimming and diving had 10 student-athletes earn a spot on the 2017 Academic All-Mid-American Conference squad, the league office recently announced. Jessica Avery, Allie Brinkhoff, Bailey Cahill, Allison Dicke, Emily Frederick, Madeline Grubbe, Gabbi Haaraoja, Maggie Hack, Rachael Hester and Katrin Streicher were selected due to their outstanding efforts in the classroom, as well as the pool, in 2016-17.

Ohio Department of Agriculture announces new assistant director

Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Director David T. Daniels has appointed former State Representative Tim Derickson as the department’s assistant director. Derickson most recently served as executive director of the Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. One of his many accomplishments in the legislature was sponsorship of HB 89 in March 2011 that established Ohio Agriculture Week, an annual week of recognition dedicated to the state’s largest industry.
