Rockets make it five straight with 80-67 win over CSU

Toledo overcame a cold shooting performance from the field in Savage Arena last Saturday afternoon to extend its winning streak to five games with an 80-67 victory over Cleveland State (2-7). The Rockets (7-1) shot just 38.7 percent from the field but offset that atypical shooting performance with a season-low four turnovers.

Northern Ohio gasoline distributor’s tax refund claim rejected

The Ohio Supreme Court rejected a Sunoco gasoline middleman’s argument that the company was entitled to a $417,000 commercial activities tax (CAT) refund. The Court found the company is not exempt from paying state tax on the more than 11 billion gallons of fuel it sold to northern Ohio retail stations annually.

Rockets accept invitation to play in Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl

The University of Toledo has accepted an invitation to play Florida International University of Conference USA in the 2018 Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl at Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, UT Vice-President and Athletic Director Mike O'Brien recently announced. The game will be played at 12:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 21 and will be televised on ESPN.

Improving the lives of people with dementia through innovative training

One of the key functions of the Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman is to help nursing homes and other long-term care providers in Ohio continuously improve the care and services they provide. Caring for adults with dementia can be especially challenging. To do so most effectively, caregivers should get to know the individual so that they can respond to their needs more directly. Unfortunately, with limited time and resources, nursing homes across the country have relied too heavily on medications as the quickest and most direct way to address difficult behaviors. As a result, anti-psychotic medications have been given to too many residents. This practice has been identified as dangerous or potentially fatal for those with dementia.
