Meanwhile, the Center for Farmland Policy Innovation announced last month that it plans to distribute $50,000 through the center's Farmland Protection Partnership Program, for two or three innovative projects that promote community-based agricultural economic development priorities in local communities.

Also, the center expects to disperse a total of $10,000 for two or three smaller planning grants.

The Center for Farmland Policy Innovation was created in 2006 and is associated with the OSU Extension Services.

The center became operational in part due to $400,000 in funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service.

The center works directly with communities on innovative policy demonstrations and models, "writes policy briefs that are timely and locally relevant, maintains a communication network" and hosts an annual state-wide farmland policy meeting that is the largest of in the country, according to the American Farmland Trust., RICK ADAMCZAK, Daily Reporter Staff Writer, Copyright 2010, The Daily Reporter, 580 S.
